Code of Conduct

The Executive Committee of Musaeus College Model United Nations has the right to dismiss any participant from the conference due to the infringement of any regulations stated below. MCMUN will strictly adhere to the following Code of Conduct:

  1. Delegates must abide by the instructions and advice given by any conference staff member or MCMUN faculty advisor. Delegates who do not comply with the given instructions will be subjected to suspension or permanent expulsion from the conference, given the gravity of the offense.
  2. Delegates are not allowed to use laptops and mobile phones while committee sessions are in order. The usage of electronic devices is only permitted when drafting resolutions. If any delegate should be found using an electronic device to research, thus gaining an unfair advantage, the device will be confiscated until the adjournment of sessions and the delegate will be suspended from the committee session for a time period decreed by the Head Table.
  3. Any proven attempts at plagiarism will not be entertained by any chairing panel in the conference, and will lead to the delegate being strictly penalised if found.
  4. Delegates are responsible for their litter. After the adjournment of committee sessions, each delegate must clean his/her area before leaving the committee room. Proper disposals will be available on the school premises. Individuals will also be held responsible for noted vandalism and damage that occurs to their committee rooms and the property they use.
  5. Delegates are encouraged to take measures to maintain their personal hygiene during the two days of the conference, and to not subject any other delegate around them to feelings of discomfiture due to one’s habits and practices. We believe that being clean and proper reflects upon the strength of a delegate’s personality and we encourage delegates to maintain this throughout the conference.
  6. Cigarettes, alcohol and illicit drugs are strictly banned from the conference premises at all times. Any delegate caught in the possession of alcoholic beverages or drugs will immediately be expelled from the conference without further questioning, and necessary legal action will be taken regarding the guilty parties.
  7. Delegates will be photographed during committee sessions to maintain records of the conference. Delegates will not be allowed to leave committee rooms at odd hours to take photographs with their peers. If found, the delegate will be penalised for irresponsible behaviour.
  8. All delegates attending the Musaeus College Model United Nations Conference must adhere to the following dress code. In accordance with conventional MUN guidelines, delegates must be dressed in Western business attire. Delegates who fail to meet the standard of the dress code will be dismissed from the conference.
    1. Men and boys must wear a collared button-down shirt which should be tucked in at all times. Ladies may wear a blouse, a button-down shirt or a sweater. Dresses are also appropriate given that they reach below one’s knee length.
    2. Wearing slacks and dress pants is encouraged, preferably in dark colours. Ladies may wear skirts as long as they are knee-length. Jeans and shorts are strictly not allowed to be worn for the conference.
    3. Men and boys should wear dress shoes. Ladies may wear open-toed footwear, provided that it is professional, and they may wear heels if they wish to do so.
    4. Sneakers, sandals and flip-flops are strictly not permitted.
  9. Hair must be kept looking professional at all times; hairstyles should not distract from a delegate’s overall appearance. Delegates should refrain from dying their hair artificial colours, such as blue, pink, etc. in the weeks leading up to the conference. Men are expected to shave in order to maintain the decorum that is expected of delegates attending a school conference.
    1. Delegates who have facial piercings (excluding earlobe piercings) which are not for cultural purposes should refrain from wearing rings and studs for the conference in order to maintain a professional appearance. Delegates who have tattoos are advised to wear clothes which cover them.
    2. Men are advised against wearing bracelets, friendship bands and all forms of jewellery.
  10. Delegates are advised to be punctual for all activities outlined by the agenda of the conference. Arriving late, constantly being out of place and being unaware of their surroundings will lead to the delegate being marked negatively.
    1. Faculty advisors and delegates should keep in mind that consistency is a key factor that will be taken into consideration when issuing participation certificates. If a delegate is absent on at least one day of the conference, he/she will not be eligible for any awards.
    2. No requests for exceptions will be entertained in order to maintain fairness in conference administration.
  11. Delegates should keep in mind that all conference participants hail from diverse cultures and societies and thus, may have different opinions. We request that you keep an open mind throughout the conference, appreciate diversity, and show due respect to all other participants in every way possible.
  12. All committee videos must be suitable and relevant to the conference. Any form of defamation or inappropriate behaviour in the videos will not be tolerated.
  13. Musaeus College Model United Nations will recognise delegates that perform exceptionally well in every aspect of the conference. However, to be acknowledged as such, these delegates should maintain decorum at all times and be true diplomats by word and deed.
  14. Food must not be consumed inside the committee rooms. The school canteen will be open on both days of the conference and lunch will be provided at the relevant times assigned to each committee.
  15. Parking will not be available inside the school premises except for selected vehicles which have requested and been granted access to the school parking lot prior to the conference.
